First up a teaser for a surgical video on radical mastectomy. This is not for children, and not neccessarily for you, kind of depending if you are into surgery and all that stuff.. Read the rest of this entry »

Humming Hypothetical Hal

December 17, 2007

Hypothetical Hal was out and about. It just so happened that he was somewhat of an adrenaline monkey, and just earlier that month, he had discussed with another Chum how cool it would be to rappell down the side of a building. As soon as his butterfly mind had thought of this factoid, he gazed up at the buildings passing along his left and right, and he thought to himself, ‘why am I down here when I could be up there?’. Great Man. New Ink. Rest Peacefully.

December 16, 2007

Today it is exactly two years since my Grandfather died from a tumour.

I have to admit, in my adult life I have lost a few people, but I have always felt strange about my own reaction to the loss. I am usually not the first to cry, though I can get touched to tears by other things, like films or books. Ultimately I think it’s because I have a very relaxed relationship with death. I am not religious, but I like symbolism, and I am particular about seeing death as a natural link in the chain of life. Like the completion of a circle. And it’s simply not that sad to me. At times I felt really ..almost angry with myself for this seeming lack of emotion. In time however, I am content with this outlook, and know it isn’t because I am a bad person I don’t cry so much at funerals. It’s just the inclination to seeing it as a more positive thing than simply loss. Read the rest of this entry »

Beware of conartists..

December 9, 2007

I usually hate the warnings that get sent around, but I have to admit that this one is important, and I feel I have to step up and make people aware..Please protect everyone you know by sending the following information to your friends and family:

There is a group of conmen and women operating in various locations across the UK. If a man comes to your front door and says he is conducting a survey and asks you to show him your bum, do NOT show him your bum. This is a scam – he only wants to see your bum and you’ll get nothing in return.

I wish I’d got this yesterday. I feel so stupid and cheap now!

Colouring..

December 9, 2007

It takes too long to colour the way I do it in illustrator. The following colouring in of this picture I’m working on took like.. 1.5 hours. The intention is to do most the drawing similar to the ‘airfilter’ (top grey section), i.e. 1. colour, 2. shading, and 3. highlights. If anyone has any suggestions for doing fast work like this, please drop a comment.. Read the rest of this entry »

Shannon Larrat, BME, and a Hesitant Reversion

December 7, 2007

I feel like I owe Shannon Larrat and BMEzine a fair bit of respect and admiration in terms of being a driving force for how I have lived my life the last 5+ years. I found this video on Shannon’s blog today, a preview from a forthcoming documentary about body modification, called ‘Open Eyes, which looks like it will be very good. I thought I’d share it here, maybe enlighten one or two more people, or at least awaken some newfound curiosity.. Read the rest of this entry »

Phew…

December 6, 2007

I have just photographed 50 of my sketches and linework pieces, then edited each individual one to make them smaller, without table borders, and so forth in photoshop. Took a good hour and a half, and it was very very very dull. But the result is now up on flickr for you to enjoy, and that makes it all worthwhile! I am gonna include a couple of my own favourites on this blog to hopefully entice you to go have a look, and I really appreciate comments and critique.. Read the rest of this entry »

This Might Be A Long One..

December 4, 2007

Musically I am having some odd cravings lately. I am currently sat with my Pandora up and running, listening to the excellent compositions of Andres Batista. It was my listening to Maurice Ravel’s BolĂ©ro (a great piece of music by the way..) which prompted me to find some more classical music through Pandora, which in turn led me down the road to some stunning flameco guitarism..
